Sunflower microgreens are easy to grow, but removing seed pods can be a bit of a challenge. Follow these steps for a successful harvest:

1. Soak seeds for rapid germination

• Place the seeds in a net, container or bucket with water and let them soak for 8-12 hours .
• This helps to speed up germination and ensures even growth.

2. Sowing in a growing tray

• Use a shallow tray with 2 cm of fine potting soil .
• Sow 30 grams of seeds per 1010" tray (25x25 cm) or 55-65 grams per 1020" tray (25x50 cm).
• For best results, use a tray with holes in a sealed tray to allow excess water to drain and prevent mold.

3. Germination phase (Dark period, 4-5 days)

• Press the seeds firmly into the soil and moisten the soil.
• Cover the tray with another tray and place extra weight on top to ensure the seeds make good contact with the soil.
• After 4-5 days the plants will push up the tray – time for the next phase!

4. Growth phase (Light & watering)

• Remove the cover tray and place the microgreens under grow lights or in a sunny window frame .
• Water daily from below by lifting the tray with holes and pouring water into the closed tray.
• This prevents mold formation and ensures firm, healthy microgreens.

5. Remove seed remains

• Around day 7-8 there may still be seed pods attached to the cotyledons.
• Gently run your hand over the top of the microgreens to loosen the seed pods.
• Tip: Lightly moisten the seed pods and leaves with a plant sprayer to make them easier to remove.

6. Harvesting and storing

• After 10-12 days the microgreens are ready to harvest!
• Cut them off just above the roots with a sharp knife or scissors.
• Store harvested microgreens in the refrigerator and use within a few days for maximum freshness.
