Grow your own cress microgreens – in just a few days!
Garden cress microgreens ( Lepidium sativum ), also known as cress or garden cress sprouts, are among the fastest-growing varieties you can grow at home. Ideal for bread, salads, or as a fresh, spicy topping for soup or eggs.

What makes garden cress microgreens so popular?

These little powerhouses combine speed, flavor, and nutritional value. They germinate in no time and deliver a peppery, mustardy flavor similar to radish. Perfect for those who love a kick—and instant results.

🌱 Ready to harvest within a week – ideal for beginners or impatient growers
🌱 Spicy, fresh taste – mustardy with a radish hint
🌱 Requires little space – also grows well on a windowsill

Nutritional value of garden cress microgreens

Although small, garden cress microgreens are packed with healthy substances:

  • Vitamin C – Supports your resistance and energy metabolism
  • Antioxidants – Help neutralize free radicals
  • Glucosinolates – Known for their cleansing and detoxifying properties
  • Digestive enzymes – Promote healthy intestinal function

Use garden cress as a spicy seasoning, nutritious topping, or refreshing addition to your meal.

Growing your own cress microgreens – here's how

Garden cress is one of the easiest microgreens to grow yourself. No green thumb required!

What do you need?
A shallow tray, coconut fibre, kitchen paper or cotton, a plant sprayer and some light.

Step-by-step plan:

  1. Sowing
Fill a tray with moist substrate (e.g. paper towel or coconut fiber)
Sow the seeds close together, but without crowding them
Press lightly and spray with a fine sprayer
  2. Germination stage (1–2 days)
Cover the tray with foil or a transparent lid
    Place in a warm place (18–22 °C)
    Keep the substrate slightly moist
  3. Growth under light (day 3–6)
Remove the cover as soon as the blades become visible
Place the tray in a light spot (window sill or under a grow light)
Continue to spray lightly daily or water from below
  4. Harvesting (days 5–7)
Cut the garden cress just above the substrate with clean scissors
Eat them immediately or store in the refrigerator for a few days
